About Tina
Tina Bournazos / Independent College Counselor
I hold a Certificate in College Counseling from the UCLA Extension as well as a Master’s of Journalism and a BA in English, both from UC Berkeley. A former journalist, I bring excellent interviewing and listening skills to my consulting practice and am adept at prompting students to reflect on what is most important to them. An experienced editor, I have an eye for what might be an engaging topic for an admissions essay. And as the past president of a scholarship foundation, I’ve read hundreds of scholarship applications and know what stands out in an application. I’m also a mom who has experienced the college admissions process first-hand with two very different children.
In between meeting with students and touring colleges, I’ve volunteered as a College Coach for Scholar Match assisting underrepresented students in San Francisco and have served as a scholarship reader for the Cal Alumni Association’s Leadership Award and the San Francisco Education Fund’s Maisin Scholarship. I’ve also presented workshops at the College of Marin’s Transfer and Career Center on Choosing a Major, Writing a Personal Statement, and Applying for Scholarships.
